Embarking on the journey of launching my second recruitment firm has been both challenging and rewarding. After founding and successfully operating a recruitment company specializing in talent from Puerto Rico in 2016, I merged with another firm in 2023 and transitioned to work with the acquiring company. Sixteen months later, I realized my passion for connecting Puerto Rican professionals with mainland opportunities remained strong and that many people, both job seekers and companies, looked to me for their employment or recruiting needs. There was no doubt that I had to start my own company again.

Over the years, I’ve built a trusted network among Puerto Rican job seekers who know me as “Martín.” Trust comes from relationship building. My people skills didn’t develop overnight; it stems from authentic relationships cultivated during my four years in the Peace Corps right out of college, working alongside indigenous communities in Latin America. These experiences honed my networking and entrepreneurial skills, emphasizing the value of genuine connections and innovative ventures. There is a unique confidence I gained from having conversations with and working side by side with tribal people in the jungles of Latin America.

In the past two months since departing my previous role, I’ve reconnected with professionals from various stages of my career and established new connections. These relationships have strengthened my confidence and made me proud of the many walks of life I've had to get me to where I am at in my career. This renewed confidence enables me to engage with leaders of major companies, a confidence rooted in diverse experiences from meaningful dialogues with tribal leaders in the Amazon to meetings with Directors of organizations in Puerto Rico or Zoom calls with Presidents of some of the biggest landscape companies in the country. As I am launching a new business, I continue to realize the wealth of relationships I’ve nurtured is invaluable.

As fast paced our lives can be, let's make sure not to appreciate the relationships we've built and realize the vast number of opportunities and value that those relationships can bring.

Today, I’m proud to introduce Isla Talent, specializing in recruiting professionals from Puerto Rico for industries such as construction, hospitality, landscaping, manufacturing, and healthcare. As I embark on this new venture, I reflect on the experiences and collaborations that have led me here. I am grateful to everyone that I’ve crossed paths with.

Relationships are my religion.
