As the founder of Isla Talent, my mission is to connect hardworking, skilled professionals from Puerto Rico with meaningful job opportunities across the mainland United States. But the same drive that fuels this business comes from a very personal place: adventure. I’ve spent the last few years diving headfirst into cycling, endurance training, and mountain adventures, not just for health, but for mental clarity and personal growth. Whether it’s grinding out a long climb on the bike or pushing through a tough training day, I’ve learned that these personal challenges directly impact how I lead, how I recruit, and how I build relationships.
There’s something about getting outside your comfort zone, physically or professionally, that teaches resilience. When I’m on a bike ride with thousands of feet of climbing ahead, I’m forced to stay focused, patient, and committed. That same mindset applies to building a recruiting business from scratch. Recruiting from Puerto Rico isn’t just about filling jobs, it’s about building trust, navigating cultural differences, and making real human connections. These are the same qualities that are sharpened every time I get out on a trail or take on a new personal challenge.
I believe that how we show up in our personal life reflects how we operate in our professional one. Staying sharp mentally and physically helps me stay creative, solution-oriented, and driven. Fitness keeps me grounded. Adventure keeps me curious. And when you’re building a recruiting firm that bridges the gap between Puerto Rican talent and U.S. employers in industries like construction, hospitality, healthcare, and landscaping, you need both grit and heart. This is more than a job placement service; it’s a mission built on values of commitment, adaptability, and performance.
My entrepreneurial journey has been anything but conventional, full of leaps, pivots, and risk. But I’ve come to realize that the same courage it takes to descend a mountain pass on a bike is the courage it takes to start over, launch a new Puerto Rican Recruiting company and believe in a big vision. Isla Talent was born from that spirit.
Or recently when I decided to take on the new challenge of recruiting nurses from Puerto Rico I utilized that same comfort of risk and trying something new in my personal life to professional. I continuously learn something new when it comes to “How to recruit from Puerto Rico” just like I learn a new skill on the mountain bike.
We don’t just recruit from Puerto Rico, we believe in the potential of its people, and we’re committed to helping them thrive. Whether in life, in fitness, or in business, the adventure is always worth it!
